Topic: Retooling Physical Education for K-12

Professor Lordinio A. Vergara is currently the Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Health, Recreation, Dance, and Sports and concurrent Director of the Center for Culture and Sports Development of the Philippine Normal University (PNU). He holds the degrees Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Physical Education, cum laude, and Master of Arts in Sports and Recreation Management at the PNU, in 1997 and 2004, respectively.

Prof. Vergara serves as Member of the Technical Committee in Physical Education and Sports and Wellness Management at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), who designs Programs, Standards, and Guidelines for Tertiary Physical Education and Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Curriculum in the country. He is part of the curriculum team who crafted the K-12 Physical Education Curriculum and served as Trainer for the Mass Training of P.E. Teachers in the Basic Education Program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Prof. Vergara was a former Secretary and currently an Executive Council Member of the National Dance Committee, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). His advocacy in the promotion of traditional games and dances made him one of the Ten Outstanding Young Leader for Culture and the Arts, given by the United Nations Association of the Philippines in 2009. He is also awarded as Dangal ng Bayan ng San Juan Batangas for Culture and the Arts category in 2012, and both 1st Prize Winner for Research Oral Presentation in the International Conference in Physical Education and Sports by the Pan Asian Society of Physical Education and Sports held in Nanchang, China in 2010, and International Conference in Physical Education and Sports given by the Sport Science Research Institute of Iran in 2015.

At present, Prof. Vergara is doing his dissertation leading to the Degree Doktor Pendidikan Olahraga (Doctor of Physical Education and Sports) under the customized scholarship program of PNU and the Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Indonesia.
